Indoor Air Quality

The operation of an air conditioning system has a dual nature. We all know that it maintains the controlled climate that makes our homes and businesses so comfortable; however, we forget that to do that it continually circulates the same air in our homes for us to breathe in, again and again. Maintaining good indoor air quality is essential for a healthy home environment, yet this constant circulation creates a breeding ground for microorganisms such as mold, bacteria, viruses and more to take hold in our homes. Signs of poor indoor air quality that should be addressed include:

  • Noticeably stale air
  • Allergens and exacerbated allergy symptoms
  • Excessive dust
  • Moisture or humidity problems
  • Concerns about airborne viruses
  • Surrounding outdoor air quality concerns

To remedy these issues and maintain optimal indoor air quality despite our overly hot and humid climate, Ed Blancher Service offers extensive options that noticeably improve the quality of your indoor air. Whether you’re looking to address allergies, limit moisture, or protect your family from airborne contaminants, there are options to create a healthier and safer indoor environment.

Whole-House Air Purification Systems:

AccuClean™

American Standard offers the AccuClean™ filtration system, endorsed by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. These systems effectively remove various airborne particulates to improve indoor air quality by electrically charging incoming particles to stick to the collection cells. AccuClean™ systems are low-maintenance, efficient and 99.98% effective at removing particles as small as 0.3 microns, including viruses and bacteria known to cause seasonal illness. AccuClean™ purifies the air in circulation up to seven times per hour, meaning it performs up to five times more efficiently than portable systems. These systems must be maintained every 3 to 6 months to ensure optimal operation.

QuikBox™

Made to hold a 5” media filter, the QuikBox™ is installed on the indoor unit and offers effective air filtration that captures particles as small as 1 micron. Media filters provide whole-home filtration without the need for expensive, bulky air purifiers in each room. QuikBox™ with media filters are up to 20 times more effective than a standard 1” throwaway filter and protect your heating and cooling equipment without reducing efficiency. Media filters are available in many different sizes and configurations and allow for easy replacement by the homeowner or technician. Media filters need to be changed every 6 months to ensure proper operation, airflow, and cleanliness.

Energy Recover Ventilation Systems:

FreshEffects™

American Standard’s FreshEffects™ Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) removes stale indoor air and brings in fresh, preconditioned outdoor air, so the air in your home is continually renewed. FreshEffects™ reduces odors, chemical vapors and naturally occurring gases that can become trapped in tightly sealed homes. This system exchanges indoor and outdoor air, while capturing energy as heat and recovering moisture from outgoing air during cold weather to balance the temperature of the fresh air it pulls in. During hot, humid weather, it pre-cools and dehumidifies that incoming air. Additionally, it boasts quiet operation while it simultaneously delivers fresh air and removes stale indoor air regardless of other system operations.

Dehumidifiers:

DehumidifierEd Blancher Service proudly offers the Ultra Series line, formerly known as Ultra-Aire, from Santa Fe, a brand well-regarded for its dehumidification solutions and manufactured by the trusted Thermastor brand. These Santa Fe whole-house ventilating dehumidifiers play a pivotal role in mitigating health risks and mold issues, achieving this through dedicated dehumidification, advanced filtration, and the introduction of fresh air. These units can be strategically placed in various locations like basements, crawl spaces, attics, closets, or mechanical rooms to address humidity concerns. Properly managing humidity is essential to ensure indoor comfort, especially during the summer. Ed Blancher Service can help you find the right equipment from a range of dehumidifiers that will eliminate excess moisture in any size home to help you optimize your personal comfort. If you want to preserve furniture and wood floors, as well as prevent damage to electronics due to static electricity a dehumidifier will help get the job done.

UV Lights and Germicidal UV Lamps:

As part of our comprehensive range of services, we are pleased to offer the installation of the RGF Environmental Group’s ozone-free HALO-LED™ Whole Home In-Duct Air Purifier, a germicidal UV lamp. In addition to our other indoor air quality accessories, germicidal UV lamps such as the HALO-LED™ serve as an indispensable solution to safeguard the purity of your HVAC system and therefore, your home. Some bacteria, viruses, mold spores, and other toxins are too small to be stopped by traditional air filters and can even pass through a HEPA filter. HALO-LED™ quietly distributes low levels of airborne hydrogen peroxide throughout the air-conditioned space so you get the fresh air where you need it. When correctly installed, lamps that emit ultraviolet light can play a critical role in eradicating bacteria and preventing mold growth by being strategically positioned in proximity to your existing indoor coil. When exposed to UV-C light, which emits a specific wavelength that effectively disrupts their natural processes, any microorganisms that may infiltrate your home, ductwork, or cooling coils are effectively killed, preventing them from being circulated further into the indoor environment.
